HUMAN GRADE vs. PET GRADE THE DIFFERENCE?
Human grade meat means Grade 1 meat and meat that is fit for human consumption. It is free from parasites and made only from healthy animals. Animals that are sent to an abattoir or meat that is butchered must have a signed declaration saying worming is up to date to be classified as human grade.
Human-grade meat has to be healthy before slaughter, whereas pet-grade meat has not had the benefit of a parasite control schedule.
Also, the health of the animals that are used for the pet meat industry is not regulated. Sick, dead, or dying animals are primarily used for pet food as they may not meet human-food standards.
Most pet minces have a lot of preservatives to keep them shelf-stable for weeks. These preservatives are known to can cause allergies in some pets. In addition, the transportation, refrigeration & storage of pet grade meat is not regulated.
The risk of harmful bacteria growing in pet-grade meat increases greatly if these procedures are not followed as per human-grade meat guidelines.

WHY A SINGLE PROTEIN DIET?
With Somerford Raw & Natural, if you buy a chicken variety our food will ONLY contain chicken or our salmon variety will only contain salmon. This includes all ingredients meat, bone and offal.
If you have a pet with an allergy to a certain protein i.e. chicken, this is very important to know, as some foods are labelled as one meat but contain a mixture of other meats or meat by-products.
We encourage you to ALWAYS read the ingredient list on the foods that you feed your pets - you may be surprised at what you are actually feeding them, as opposed to what you thought you were buying.

WHY DO YOU USE OFFAL?
A raw diet isn’t complete without offal. Compared to regular cuts of muscle meat, organ meats are more densely packed with just about every nutrient, including heavy doses of B vitamins such as B1, B2, B6, folic acid, and vitamin B12. Organ meats are also loaded with minerals like phosphorus, iron, copper, magnesium, and iodine and provide the essential fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. These vitamins and minerals are critical to health and wellbeing of your pet.
IS YOUR FOOD COMPLETE OR DO I NEED TO ADD ANYTHING?

WHY FERMENTED VEGETABLES?
By fermenting the vegetables, it is much easier for your pet to break down and extract all the vitamins and minerals during the digestion process. Again, this imitates the wild dog diet, as a dog would consume the plant matter in the animal’s gut that it would catch and eat naturally in the wild.
DO I NEED TO COOK IT?
The raw diet is designed to be eaten raw and fresh. Cooking destroys vitamins and changes the molecular structure of protein and fats. Domestic dogs and cats haven’t evolved to eat cooked food. The digestive tract of a domestic dog is no different from a wolf or a domestic cat to a wild cat.
CAN I FEED THIS TO MY ADULT DOG?
